Roll Call

11/24/11

Of Gershon were the families of the Libnites and of the Shimeites.  These are the families of the GershonitesNumbers 3:21

Gershon was a son of Levi.  His brothers were Kohath and Merari.  Gershon, Kohath and Merari (and their sons) served Aaron the priest in the duties of the tabernacle.
The Israelite's followed a cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night.  When God said to move, the Gershonites were called to service.
The Gershonites had an awesome privilege and responsibility.  They are to carry the curtains of the tabernacle, that is, the tent of meeting, its covering and its outer covering of durable leather, the curtains for the entrance to the tent of meeting, the curtains of the courtyard surrounding the tabernacle and altar, the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard, the ropes and all the equipment used in the service of the tent. The Gershonites are to do all that needs to be done with these things.  Numbers 4:25,26
There is such a wealth of detail in that which we will get to over the course of time and study.  For now it is enough to meditate upon the many-sided grace (1 Peter 4:10) of God.  Happy Thanksgiving!
